J.Lately - Hydrate (cover art)

J.Lately pre-releases “Hydrate (Feat. Dizzy Wright) (Prod. Space Cadet)”

J.Lately has pre-released the second track off his upcoming “Winnebago” album today. “Hydrate” features Dizzy Wright and was produced by Space Cadet.

J.Lately (Northern California) and Dizzy Wright (Las Vegas) link up to trade verses about the 420 reasons why they are winning on their own terms, and admit that every now and then, even they have to stop to “Hydrate”. This is J.Lately’s hustle in song form — a work ethic embodying the intensity of Gary Vaynerchuk, and a chill like that of the Dalai Lama. Dizzy and Lately have both written chapters in the informal independent artist’s playbook, displaying that crucial balance between hustling and hydrating, between creating and consuming, between chasing the dream and cherishing the dream.

“Hydrate” has a cinematic feel — thanks to J.Lately’s long-time producer, Space Cadet — which transports one’s mind to a slow-motion montage of live show footage, life on the road, and behind the scenes antics from two of the hardest working touring acts in hip hop. The song is the second single off of Lately’s upcoming album, “Winnebago”, which is slated to drop in early 2021. Both J.Lately and Dizzy Wright have had their foot on the gas, despite the madness 2020 has thrown at us all, and this offering is a clear sign that other than a quick stop to hydrate, nothing’s going to slow them down.

J.Lately pre-releases “Winnebago (Prod. Space Cadet)”

Northern California emcee J.Lately has delivered his new single “Winnebago” today, the title track off his upcoming album by the same name.

The song is produced by frequent collaborator Space Cadet, who produced all of Lately’s last album, “Tuesday“. Cadet provides the driving (no pun intended) audio backdrop for Lately to deliver his determined message about breaking free from both the physical and mental confinements placed on us by society and ourselves. The “Winnebago” album is due out in early 2021, and includes features from Dizzy Wright, Gavlyn, and Canadian emcee Junk, with production handled exclusively by Space Cadet and Trey C.

Words from J.Lately about the single: “I actually wrote this song right before COVID and quarantine became a thing, and it’s just seemed to become more and more relevant as this year has gone on. The song stems from this feeling I often have of being trapped or feeling claustrophobic. Sometimes it has to do with feeling physically contained from being indoors too much, or from needing to get out of a crowded city, but oftentimes it’s also a very mental and psychological thing as well. I’ve always found solace and peace in the open road, and this song represents my quest to capture that feeling.”

About J.Lately: J.Lately distinguishes himself as an emcee with his soulful style and laid back flow. A true appreciation for music along with the unique ability to put everyday life into a relatable perspective has allowed him to flourish in the Bay Area scene and beyond. His music possesses the rare ability to make you contemplate and vibe out simultaneously, finding the perfect balance between the conscious and the stoner.
Coming from the small town of Sebastopol, and having split time between Oakland and Southern California, his influences are eclectic and mesh together effortlessly to form his own individual style. He’s collaborated with artists such as The Grouch, Blimes, Demrick, Blu and more, and his relentless drive has kept Lately on tour across the country with artists such as Zion I, Andre Nickatina, Locksmith, and A-Plus of the Hieroglyphics.
