Part 2

  1. When San E explains how they had to wear a beanie to keep the headphones from falling off, the graphics show a vinyl bag and the Korean on-screen text says “vinyl bag” too. This is a misunderstanding since the word beanie (+the object particle) is written ‘비니를’ (binireul) and the word for vinyl bag (+the object particle) is written ‘비닐을’ (binireul) but, as you can already see from the romanization, the two are pronounced the same. So the editor thought they put vinyl bags over the head.
  2. San E performs ‘맛좋은산’ (Tasty San) off his debut album ‘Everybody Ready?’
    Note: “I will rap, so hyung (you) cut the rice cake” is a reference to a sentence said by the mother of Han Seok-bong, one of Joseon’s most famous calligraphers. She told his son: “Now, I will cut the rice cake so you will write.” (자, 이제부터 나는 떡을 썰 테니 너는 글을 써 보거라. source) It shows the mother’s love for her son and that she wants him to do what he is good at. The way San E changes the sentence, he is saying that he raps better than the hyung he’s addressing, and tells the hyung to cut rice cake instead of rapping because he’s no good at rap. With this line, San E both brags about his skills and disses that hyung.
    Also: When rapping “Attention!” San E throws his first into the camera. This is because the word for ‘attention’ (주먹, jumeok) can also mean ‘fist’.

With Kjun, he talks about Gimchi Hill Gang, Superbee, dab, his family, performs several tracks live, freestyles, and we find out that myunDo is actually a very determined and romantic guy as a certain woman joins the two men in the Rapper Car …

Episode 1/2

  1. myunDo (면도) means ‘shaving‘ or ‘to shave’ in Korean. This makes it difficult to find any information on him by searching using only his name in Korean.
  2. myunDo’s Gimchi Hill Gang roommate says at the end of the call, “Bring me ice cream!” literally, “Bring me a Melona (melon ice pop) when you get home!” and is a phrase which is commonly used with people who will eventually return. Sometimes it literally means that they should bring something upon their coming back. The phrase apparently originated from a story where someone sent the text message “Bring me a Melona when you come!” to the delivery man instead of their younger sibling and the delivery man actually did bring the Melona ice pop. (*)
  3. Kjun pinching myunDo’s cheek and asking, “What does your father do?!” is him imitating actor Kim Kwang-gyu in the Korean movie ‘Friend’ (친구) from 2001. You can watch the scene here.
Episode 2/2

  1. Correction: When myunDo says that he had no “time” to go out with anyone, it should actually be that he had no ‘chance’ or ‘opportunity’ to do so since he was left out of that group of “good” students.

  1. The first song Microdot performs is ‘Goal Keeper‘ (with Dok2).
  2. The second song is ‘Love Letter‘ (with Sanchez).
Episode 2/2

  1. So, the stage name Microdot was made of micro + dot, while micro comes from micro scooter which Microdot often rode as a child and dot from the mole of the engineer in the studio where Microdot first recorded.
  2. In this second part, he first raps ‘Homage‘, a track completely in English off his ‘MICROTAPE EP‘.
  3. When they talk about how Sanchez does not do any chores, Kjun wants to imply that Sanchez thinks that he helped Microdot get popular through SMTM and thus Microdot should do the chores in return.
  4. Note: Korean people call their older brothers “hyung” but due to the non-Korean influence, Microdot calls Sanchez “Chez“.
  5. Sanchez is shocked that his brother has learned the word “개소리” (kaesori) which is made up of the words ‘개’ (kae, lit. dog) which is used as an intensifier rendering the word into a swearword, and of ‘소리’ (sori, lit. sound). It translates to ‘nonsense/stupid talk/rubbish’ (*) and is not that bad of a cussword, actually (in my opinion at least).
  6. When Kjun says, “I think I had a wrong impression,” he actually says “I was thinking about the movie ‘Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War'” (South Korea, 2004) which is, as the title suggests, about the beautiful relationship between two brothers during the Korean War. So Kjun implies that he thought the two Shin brothers had a great relationship just like the two brothers in the movie.
  7. “But I went fu- … very close” — Yes, he nearly said the Korean F-word. (This is definitely worse than 개소리).
  8. The last song of the two episodes is ‘Celebrate‘ which features The Quiett, Babylon, and Sanchez (aka Fassnakuh).
