Simon Dominic - DARKROOM: roommates only (album cover)

Simon Dominic returns with ‘DARKROOM: roommates only’ LP

The wait is over. AOMG’s Simon Dominic has released a new full-length album today. ‘DARKROOM: roommates only‘ features singers Kim Jong-seo and Jinbo, as well as producers Dihcro, GRAY, slom, and Peejay.

Simon Dominic, aka Simon D or “Ssam D”, began his career in 2005. With his impressive rap and singing skills, he garnered fans’ attention and released his first single, ‘Lonely Night’, in 2007. In the same year, he founded Supreme Team with fellow Jiggy Fellaz member E SENS. The duo soon joined Amoeba Culture and released several successful albums and singles.
In 2011, the man from Busan released his first full-length album, ‘Simon Dominic Presents ‘SNL LEAGUE BEGINS’. It was a joint album with producer Loptimist (SNL = Simon aNd Loptimist), so Simon actually preferred to call it his 0.5th full-length album rather than his first.
In 2014, he left Amoeba Culture and joined AOMG as co-CEO next to Jay Park. One year later, his first mini album under AOMG came out, and another year later he represented the label on SMTM5 together with GRAY.

This year, Simon D released the single and music video ‘Upside Down‘ with his label mates.

Today, an unexpected present came out for all of his fans: Simon Dominic’s second–or first, if you will–full-length album, ‘DARKROOM: roommates only’. It includes eight new tracks. The title track ‘Demolition Man‘ catches the eye, not only due to the featured artist. Its name is the same as the American movie’s from 1993 which Simon likes. Wanting to become the bad guy of the music scene, the rapper borrowed part of his artist name from the movie’s “bad guy” character Simon Phoenix (the “Dominic” is taken from Simon D’s Christian name).
In the lyrics, Simon raps about how he is doing recently:

“In order for me to love myself
I purposely hurt myself
The more I love, the deeper my wound
Even that scar is a part of me
Even though I scream every night
There is no response, from no one, no one
So deep is the night, even when I sing
There is nobody listening, no one, no one
You can never feel my pain”

In an interview with xsportsnews, Simon Dominic revealed that the album contains all of his hardships of the last two years. For most tracks, he worked with rookie producer Dihcro. Curiously, Simon met him by chance while trading a used instrument.
He also worked with his label mate GRAYThe Black Label‘s Peejay, and slom. The only featured artists are Superfreak Records‘ Jinbo and Kim Jong-seo, who revealed that it was only his second time featuring for another artist, after Seo Taiji. For more info about the collaboration, watch the Behind the Scenes video below! (It has both English and Chinese subtitles.)

Beenzino - 12 (album cover)

Beenzino releases full-length album ’12’

After four years of waiting, Beenzino‘s first full-length album ‘12‘ has been released today.

As it is his very first full-length album, the artist has devoted his heart and soul to it all this time, and his style that has become even clearer and stronger is evident in every aspect of the album.
’12’ is made up of eleven tracks and features Black Nut, YDG, and Suran, as well as producers Peejay, Nochang, Wall E, and Coke Jazz. The album design was made by Beenzino’s art crew IAB Studio.

Beenzino will soon have to do his military service, as he is 29 and 30 is the maximum age for the compulsory military service in Korea. The artist hints at this fact in the songs ‘Flexin’ (“I have become so famous now that I can’t forgo the military [service]”) and ‘Imagine Time’ (“I can just quit, I have to go to the military soon anyway and at that time, everything will stop”). PEEJAY releases single ‘MOONSTRUCK’ with Qim Isle and Oh Hyuk

Producer PEEJAY has released the single ‘MOONSTRUCK’ today which features Qim Isle and Oh Hyuk.

“To anyone who looks at the sea, it is blue. If you look at it from a distance, it is an even calmer blue. However, unlike its surface, the sea has many colorful facets below where it is overflowing with organisms joined by rays of sunlight.”
As the title suggests, PEEJAY’s new single ‘MOONSTRUCK’ tells of a dreamy and confusing love. Just like the sea, depending on the person, their mood, the time and situation, the song will give off a different impression and tone.

After ‘WALKIN’, Vol. 1‘, this song is the forerunner of Vol. 2. It lets you experience PEEJAY’s characteristical feelings and mood. The track was delicately mastered by John Davis who has worked amongst others with Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs, and Led Zeppelin.

The cover art was directed by IAB Studio. The idea is that the viewer becomes a scuba diver who experiences the many facets of the sea.
