Verse 1)
Take heart today too, my friend
All of you who are listening to this song are my friends
After releasing seven CDs and becoming 27 years old
All that is left is the feeling of wanting to do something for others

I know that you had a hard life too
Maybe you even fought with more haters than me
and have been protecting your dream
During the holidays your relatives are still looking down on you, uh

If so, you are doing well
If so, you are doing well

Yes, as expected I was in the same position
In news articles they call me an ‘eomchina'((Eomchina (엄친아) is the abbreviation for “eomma chingu-eui adeul” (엄마 친구의 아들) which translates to “the son of mom’s friend”. It refers to the ideal son-in-law, that guy you can never beat, the dream boyfriend of every girl, etc.)) but that’s all bullshit
Stop it, I was an undutiful son
I spent about four sad years of being a nobody

and got until here since I know my past
Being a better-known rapper doesn’t mean I’m less eager
Even if I fall from the tree, I don’t hide((This refers to a Korean saying that goes “Even monkeys fall from trees,” and implies that being good at something doesn’t mean you don’t make mistakes.
This might very well refer to his elimination from SMTM4.))
Life has always been like that

Hook)
Let’s take heart((In Korean, ‘to take heart’ literally means ‘to make strength’, thus the title.))
Who doesn’t have problems?
It’s alright, we
are still young and have great dreams

Heart, heart, heart, heart
Let’s take heart, heart, heart
Heart, heart, heart, heart
Everybody heart, heart, heart

Verse 2: Hanhae)
I couldn’t see him often, but due to Seyoon-hyung’s((Crucial Star’s real name)) encouragement
I was able to take heart several times
so I suddenly thought of sharing that energy
Also because that is something worthwhile to me

I met Sean2slow-hyung at some drinking party
I don’t really know if he remembers me
However, I felt like I was dreaming, the hiphop
the hyungs talked about was cool and did not seem childish at all, for real

I cannot turn back time
I can’t ever deny my past either
I’ve been soaked in reality and it has nearly been sweet
Then I met Vyve((Crew)) and my strict rules broke

I haven’t done my military service yet and I haven’t earned a lot of money either,
but you have no idea how much I am happy now that I’m starting afresh
Although everything has been destroyed
Right now, I am in front of the store that sells dreams((Reference to Crucial Star’s ‘꿈을 파는 가게’ [Store that Sells Dreams]))

Bridge: BrotherSu)
I know that feeling
A night full of uneasiness and worries
You know we’ll be okay
We’re well on our way, then tomorrow will come

Shinin’, shinin’, no matter where
Shinin’, shinin’, as you are
Shinin’, shinin’, yeah
Bright

Intro)((As the title suggests, the intro (and the hook) is from Seo Taiji and the Boys’ ‘Come Back Home’, a classic and a ‘gangster rap’ song that changed Korean pop music.))
What am I working hard for to find right now?
Where am I flowing to without a break right now?

Verse 1)
This is the reason why I have to say this
The reason why I always was alone in my school days
The reason why I do not fit into Itaewon((Note: area in Seoul where there are lots of foreigners.))
The reason why I am writing this in Korean

The reason why I do not go to Korean churches
The reason why I do not speak English with you
The reason why the gazes on me being like this are different
The reason why I am writing this in Korean

The same skin, the same hair color
How are we different? Still, they want to be different
Actually, they want to hide it, the yellow skin is a weakness
The place where my bones will be buried: the USA

Hook x4)
You must come back home

Verse 2)
The reason why they curse Korean rap, saying it sucks((Reference to what Keith Ape said in a recent interview with Complex (also on this track’s cover): “IN KOREA, THERE WAS NO CREW I’D WANT TO BE IN BESIDES THE COHORT. BECAUSE YOU KNOW, KOREAN RAP, IT SUCKS. BAD.”
—KEITH APE))
The reason why the other rappers all have their mouths closed
That is probably the reason why you mix in English((Reference to how Korean rappers tend to mix a lot of English into their lyrics))
The reason why I am writing this in Korean

Toadyism
Money does not determine who of us is superior to the other
Like out of habit we are still dividing ourselves into classes
As if it was human nature, we repeat mistakes of the past
and start to resemble [the people back then]

History repeats itself
To stand on top, we pull the fingernails of friends
We wanted to become Japanese,
our current goal are the USA

Hook x4)

Verse 3)
Korean hiphop! Korean hiphop!

Where did the rappers go who shouted “Korean hiphop”?
And Jay Allday who’s been talking about Korean hiphop all the time
This time he’s quiet, somehow I don’t know
These days, silence means admitting

B-Free who has been enjoying Instagram
is also keeping silent unlike usually((He refers to B-Free usually expressing his opinion on Instagram about any incidents in the scene.))
I saw it, the reality of kimchi rappers((= Korean rappers))
Not all of them are real, they are doing politics

The other rappers are silent
The other rappers are silent
The other rappers are silent

Ja Mezz - 1/4 cover

Ja Mezz reveals ‘1/4’ tracklist and album cover

‘1/4’ is about the lives of young Korean men who have lived one fourth of their life, in other words, those who are in their mid-twenties.

The album will be released online and offline on Ja Mezz’s 26th birthday, August 11.

“Ja Mezz’s charm is that he steadily keeps his nature no matter what the surroundings, this is how I saw him as a person. After listening to his first album, I realized that the same goes for his music. While going back and forth between beats with various atmospheres, there is nothing unnecessary and it does not sound try-hard, his rap does not miss the ‘center stage’. It has been a very long time since I last heard such a refreshing and pleasant voice in this scene. The more you listen, the more you’ll like the album! PS: I heard that his peer rappers are racking their brains about his entry [into the scene].” – Tablo((The last part contains a pun on ‘racking’ (ssa mezz) and Ja Mezz.))

“Not many people are used to the artist Ja Mezz. His album ‘1/4’ lets you feel what I felt when I met him. What it is like to grow up as a South Korean man, the longing for success, pleasures, the artist’s identity, this is what 1/4 is about. It is not an exciting or dramatic album. However, his clean rap, expressiveness, and the production make it interesting. And even without meeting and talking to him personally, I think you will be able to feel the same way as I did.” – Paloalto
