Y1ee, member of Holmes Crew, has released his first mini album, ‘228‘, today. The EP mostly contains latin pop and reggaeton.
Y1ee released his debut single, ‘Surrf‘, in May last year. He’s worked with his Holmes Crew mates and is also a member of the crew’s project team, ‘Mangos‘. Last month, he pre-released the track ‘Why You Gotta Go‘ via SoundCloud.
The album title stands for the 2nd release of 28-year-old Y1ee as well as for “2 minutes and 28 seconds”. The latter represents the average length of the album’s songs. In that short amount of time, the artist exhibits his music style.
Furthermore, Y1ee worked rather fast on writing and recording these tracks, so that the lyrics ended up brief and concise as well.

Project group Mangos of Holmes Crew releases ‘Mixtape Indie 2’
Mangos (Holmes Crew’s Shupie, y1ee, and Silly Boot) have released their ‘Mixtape Indie 2’ today. The 26 tracks feature dkash, Hash Swan, Kidd King, Keem Hyo-Eun, Dayday, and more.
In summer 2017, Holmes Crew members Shupie, y1ee, and Silly Boot founded the project group Mangos. The name is a mix of ‘Mangwon-dong’, the neighborhood the three artists lived in, and the US-American three-member hiphop group ‘Migos’.
One day, they saw an interview with Migos in which they said that they record several tracks within one day. Thus, the Holmes Crew members decided to do the same. The result of their hard work was the ‘Mixtape Indie‘, 25 tracks they released in July last year.
‘Mixtape Indie’ showed the three artists’ will to make an effort and become the best in the Korean indie hiphop scene. It included songs about their life as independent artists, as well as love songs with mainstream sounds. However, the album was only popular amongst Holmes Crew’s fans and hiphop fans and was unable to reach a wider audience. Mangos think that the reasons for this were their lack of publicity and the overall gloomy sounds that listeners might find tiring and boring.
Determined to once again knock on the doors of hiphop fans and the public alike, they started making ‘Mixtape Indie 2‘. Earlier this year, in the middle of working on the album, the three Mangos escaped their dark basement studio in Mangwon-dong to a ground-floor studio in Hapjeong-dong. And in the following, they made songs that are as bright as their new surroundings.
While in the previous album they tried to refrain from having featured artists, this time they did not hold back to get support from talented producers and rappers: their Holmes Crew mates Dayday, dKash, and Hash Swan, Clarity‘s Kidd King, Ambition Musik‘s Keem Hyo-Eun, rookie singer kiiko, rapper kamii, NAKED of Rocket Drive, producer RAINMAKER, and more.

dKash of Holmes Crew has released his second mini album today. ‘L.I.T. (Lost In Translation)‘ features his crew mates Y1ee, Shupie, and Silly Boot.
dKash released his first single in 2016. He’s been busy participating in his crew members’ releases and the crew’s compilation albums. In 2016 he also dropped the mini album ‘Hash X Kash‘ together with his crew mate Hash Swan. Last year he released his first mini album ‘Airport Love‘.
The rapper’s second mini album is about feelings that cannot be translated. dKash wrote his lyrics in Korean, English, and Spanish, one of his trademarks. Additional verses come from Y1ee, Shupie, and Silly Boot, aka Mangos.

Holmes Crew release second mini album ‘INDIAN SUMMER’
Holmes Crew, who are very popular in the underground scene, have released their new mini album ‘INDIAN SUMMER‘ today.
Holmes Crew was founded by its leader Shupie and video director Sillyfilm. Its other members are dKash, Y1ee, Silly Boot, and Hash Swan.
In January 2016, they released the compilation album ‘HOLMES’. In the following, the members’ solo albums and releases by the crew’s sub-units came out, like Mangos’ ‘MIXTAPE INDIE‘. Hash Swan has meanwhile been active on SMTM6 and as part of his label Ambition Musik.
The crew’s second mini album holds the meaning of an unexpected hope in the midst of despair, just like indian summer.
