Singer-songwriter Sobae has dropped her new digital single “Good Luck” today, and You can appear in the upcoming music video!
Rising Korean-American artist Sobae releases new single “ELEVATE”
Future R&B singer-songwriter Sobae released her fourth single and music video, “ELEVATE“, on November 11th at 12PM KST.
Although Sobae made her debut as a musical artist just one year ago, she has already been making waves and has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. More recently, she returned from touring 20 U.S. cities with San E and Mad Clown, two big names in South Korea’s hip hop scene.
This new single maintains Sobae’s signature silky vocals from her previous singles “Switch Up,” “Homegirl (Feat. Exy of Cosmic Girls)“, and “Holiday (Feat. San E)“– yet, the combination of hypnotizing jazz piano, powerful trap beat, and uplifting lyrics makes “ELEVATE” her most colorful, daring track yet.
Leading up to her new release, Sobae had invited fans to join the creative journey of building her next track in the web series “Sobae’s Balls.” She not only gave viewers an intimate behind-the-scenes look into the life of an independent singer-songwriter, but also found inspiration for the lyrics, melody, song title, and even the music video theme based on the interactions she had with her fans.
The song contains an encouraging reminder to listeners that they deserve to be loved exactly for who they are. It starts with a bang, and Sobae gets directly to the point: “Can’t you see what I see in you?” The theme of Sobae’s music video further reflects her desire to come out from behind the screen and frame to continue sincere dialogue with her followers.
Recently, Sobae has also been in the spotlight for her unconventional path leading up to a music career. She is a graduate of Northwestern University for both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Formerly, she was a news reporter, radio host, and manager at a climate foundation. She has openly shared the triumphs and challenges of diving into the “terrifying uncertainty” that accompanies becoming an artist, and living the “millennial desk worker’s fantasy”.
Sobae’s new single is available across all international music platforms, and the music video has been released on ILZO & CO.’s Youtube channel — watch it below!

R&B singer Sobae makes her debut with single and MV ‘Switch Up’
Future R&B artist Sobae has released her debut single and music video ‘Switch Up‘ today.
Joining artists like The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, and Kehlani in the Future R&B scene, Sobae brings her own flair to the genre with her debut single.
Sobae is one of the first female Korean-American singer-songwriters in the genre. She demonstrates her songwriting skills on the track as she croons a neo-soul infused melody over a soft trap beat. The contrast between Sobae’s signature silky, seemingly effortless vocals and witty, attitude-filled lyrics are but one of the alluring aspects of the song. With an unconventional and colorful background leading up to her music career, Sobae is truly ready to “switch things up” in every sense of the word–from shaking up the Future R&B scene to leading what she calls an “Asian-American cultural movement.” The song is entirely in English.
Sobae’s debut song was composed and co-arranged by R&B singer Eddie Shin, who debuted in 2005 as “Eddie,” releasing one full-length album and three singles. He later was a member of the popular group Aziatix alongside rapper Flowsik.
Fun fact: In August this year, Sobae starred in Y-Sport’s ‘Phys Ed (Feat. Reddy)’ music video alongside Hi-Lite Records’ Yun B, who is her former middle school classmate.
