“POSSE” KODE82 Brings Classic Bars with the Remix

I’m going to keep this short and sweet: The KODE82 remix to track “POSSE” goes. so. HARD! It’s like the first time you listen to Schoolboy Q’s “Groovy Tony” or Dr. Dre’s “Talk About It.” When I get in the mood to hear just straight bars and I watch a Loaded Lux or Iron Solomon battle.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAARS!

Within the first 30 seconds, rappers Sikboy, DAE, and MAN1AC let you know what they’re about. And what they’re about is straight BARS! They get right down to business, no filler. The chorus. Pure fluff when you consider the meat and bones of the song. The beat. Filler, acting as the foundation on which these heavy lyrics stand.

Of course, this isn’t to suggest that every part of this song isn’t just pure dynamite. The chorus pulls no punches. The beat is sparse, but it has that undercurrent of something sinister. The edges jagged like they were cut with a serrated knife. However, if the music is a knife, these verses are a damn hammer. There’s nothing gentle here. The MCs don’t give you a second to breathe between their individual verses. Sikboy’s cocky entrance into the chorus. DAE’s precision, flow and delivery that cut hard and deep. MAN1AC’s growl. That grit, that dirty, that ferocious delivery that could frighten a Klan member. Yeah… This song is so gully it just told your favorite Korean rapper they need to sit down and have some milk.

The video isn’t the focus here. It’s sharp as far as editing and actual camerawork. But we’re not here for that. “POSSE” is purely about the bars. In fact the video is just a vehicle. A carbon copy of every hip-hop video where the lead characters flex their testicular fortitude with cars, girls, and head-bobbing homies. What KODE82 really expects you to do is put on your head phones, crank up the volume, and blast this nonsense right into your cochlea.

KODE82 Welcomes You to the Posse

Ultimately the “POSSE” remix speaks for itself. To add anything else is to risk diminishing its power. It hits hard like a hurricane: thorough and destructive. Each MC has such a distinctive sound. Yet they have a chemistry that ignites the speakers. And the bars they deliver are just… Straight no chaser, one of the hardest songs to come out of Korea in the past few years.

If Sikboy, DAE, and MAN1AC are really trying to make KODE82 something greater than the sum of its parts, this is the way to do it. This right here is the type of thing you build a legacy on.
