Knave - Siigma8 (cover art)

Knave debuts with single ‘Siigma8’

Independent R&B artist Knave has released his first solo single with a featuring by Double K.

In order to make good music, Knave has been working alone, without any label or crew, concentrating on his music only.
After five years of lonely preparation comes his double single ‘Siigma8‘ which contemplates about the various changes in feelings after a breakup.
The first track ‘SomeWhere’ is about trying to accept the breakup calmly, the title track ‘OverDrive (Feat. Double K)’ expresses confusion between an ideal and reality.
Knave not only participated in making the music, but also in the music video, the stage design, and the props, demonstrating great passion.
While the two songs are very different, they also have a lot in common. Watch the two music videos and try to find out which messages Knave wants to convey, then you will enjoy his music even more.

As of now, only the music video for ‘SomeWhere’ has been revealed, which you can find below.

Verse 1)((Some parts of the lyrics on Naver were different from what B-Free actually raps, hopefully fixed all of them correctly. If you spot anything off, please leave a comment below!))
Man I gotta stay cool, man I gotta stay cool
cause I gotta make moves
Gotta get my wife that brand new house
by the beach with that beautiful view

Man I gotta stay cool, yeah I’m trying to stay cool
cause I gotta make moves, man I gotta pay bills
Got a couple past due
but they want me to lose

but I gotta stay cool, man I used to think about
running up in the store yelling “Give me the loot!”((‘loot’ is slang for ‘money’))
Man I had to go and stop myself and remind myself
that I have way too much to lose

At the time when I thought about stealing any minute
In a semi-basement working on my mixtape
Shouting “Music of Freedom”((Reference to B-Free’s ‘자유의 뮤직’ EP))
while dreaming of success, now I got on two chains

I’m old school, still making new waves
Going to Hawaii to catch a few waves
I wanna earn money like a Jew
Riding in my old whip listening to ‘New Slaves'((Kanye West song off his album ‘Yeezus’ (2013) ))

From Seoul City all the way to UK((B-Free, Okasian, DJ DJanga and Paloalto gave a concert in London last year. Read our review here.))
Our crew deep lookin’ like Wu Tang
Big rings, yeah I’m doing big things
Why you heated lookin’ like Luol Deng((basketballer who played for the Miami Heat))

I go to chill in Hawaii and spend money
I run a few checks, hundred with the big face
Every day’s a party, although
I don’t drink alcohol, today I drank a toast

The atmosphere’s nice, but smartasses
get drunk again and cause problems
I’m so cool like Lupe,((Reference to Lupe Fiasco’s 2007 album ‘The Cool’)) but please don’t kick
Don’t push man,((Reference to Lupe Fiasco’s 2006 track ‘Kick Push’ (see previous line too) )) you might get a chin check((Slang, basically meaning “I might hit you” (*) ))

Trying to stay cool but I’m stuck in my old ways
Feel like Imma lose it on a bad day
Trying to make moves, trying to get paid
Trying to make it go up on a Tuesday((Reference to ILoveMakonnen – Tuesday (Feat. Drake) ))

Used to hustle for some Cool Grays((Air Jordan 11))
Now I’m trying to hustle for some wood grain((Slang, can refer to weed or to the wood paneling in a luxury car (*) ))
Even if you fall down, if you make a mistake,
it’s cool, you can catch the next wave

Hook x4)
It’s the New Wave

Verse 2: Double K)
Yeah, New Wave, I like that

Fuck all ya negativity
All you downer’s envy
Today too I win
While you bitching and complaining bout little shit

Boi I’m chasing Mavericks
I’m gonna play in greater waters
Play hard but I never cheat
You can keep on paddling diligently on breaking waves

I don’t lose any energy obsessing over insignificant things
or chasing after what’s already in the past
When I duck down for a while
that’s probably for the sake of a plan to go even farther ahead

Water that will drain off should keep out((This is actually a really good punchline that makes use of the song’s overall wave/water metaphor; the verb used for “drain off” and “keep out” is the same (빠지다, ppajida) so this could also be translated as “Water that will drain off should drain off”))
Everything that will fall of will do so of its own accord
It’s just a matter of time, even swindlers
will soon show their true color

And when the sun shine
You ain’t gon’ be here looking for no handout((Slang for ‘handjob’))
Your thoughts alone are dark all the time, even when
the weather gets better you gon’ need your umbrella

I’ll be chillin’ at the beach wit my shades on
I’m ready for a new wave
at the line-up((The area where most of the waves are starting to break and where most surfers are positioned in order to catch a wave (*) )) and when the right wave come
Imma catch it. Just watch how I take off. New Wave

Verse 3: Paloalto)
Even though I have countless worries every night,
it’s like a birthday beat, the feeling of being born again
For now I keep going as my heart tells me to
That is my situation, fresh air, a new human being

If you can’t understand, you’ll need some time
In the end you’ll follow but you’ll be tailing after
In my teens I prepared myself and in my twenties I blew up
My thirties are an adventure, last stop utopia

If a small caliber has a lot of pride
the rest of his life becomes ugly
I have pride in my work
and I’ll take up my father’s baton and smile at the end of life

My feeling is a wave of positive energy
2002, the Red Devils’ Korean flag((1) During the 2002 Fifa World Cup which took place in Korea and Japan, the Korean team very surprisingly reached the semi-finals.
2) The Red Devils are the Korean national soccer team’s supporters club))
A lag that troubles me, there’s no rebooting
Sunrise at Seongsan Ilchulbong((A sea cliff called Sunrise Peak at the eastern coast of Jeju Island.))

I’m global, in Han-geul
it’s engraved in my heart: Korean guy
UN, love does not need electronic translators((This might refer to the UN and its many languages (though the UN has interpreters); presumably he is trying to express that love overcomes language barriors))
Use your brains with two things: courage and wisdom

Good and bad times, I wanna share them
with the people who have always showed me their same side((i.e. the people who have unchangingly stood by his side))
Even if money makes the world go round, love is UNO((Spanish for ‘one’))
Share the address in your sat nav((This is probably a metaphor for one’s dream/goal))
