Drunken Tiger - BUMAYE (cover art)

Drunken Tiger pre-releases new single and music video ‘BUMAYE’

The single and music video ‘BUMAYE (범바예)‘ mark the second pre-release off Drunken Tiger’s upcoming tenth LP after ‘YET.‘. This new track is another joint by Tiger JK and Loptimist.

The title of this track is a reference to the phrase “Bomaye,” which the audience shouted when George Foreman faced Muhammad Ali in 1974. Combining the spirit of the tiger and the legendary boxer Ali, this song sends an important message to nowadays’ youth: In this generation where everyone obsesses over numbers and rankings and uses them to rate art, it might be time for a different view on measuring value.

Having always been into African and reggae music, Tiger JK had Loptimist put an African rhythm over a boom bap-based sampling. The rhythmical beat reminds of Drunken Tiger’s ‘Liquor Shots’.

Loptimist comments: “I made constant efforts to find the right bpm and pitch for Tiger JK’s voice. And imagining him standing on stage, I tried my best to create music that would be fun for the audience yet true to hip-hop music.”

With his unrestrained flow, Tiger JK’s Korean lyrics sound like African rap. Topped with Yoonmirae‘s vocals in the chorus, this track will ease the wait until Drunken Tiger’s 10th LP.
