Feel GHood Music

Feel GHood Music has long been a place for young artists in Korea’s hip-hop and R&B scenes to have a place to flourish. Yoonmirae and Tiger JK certainly have given the newest generation of artists fertile ground to learn and grow. One of the latest additions to their roster is R&B newcomer BIBI, a vocalist with a whimsical charm and interesting vocal color. She took time to answer some questions for us at the end of 2019.

Please introduce yourself to our HiphopKR readers.

Hi, HiphopKR readers!! I’m BIBI!

What inspired you to become a singer?

I was not the most social person. I have mentioned in a couple of interviews that I have been having a hard time communicating with people. It was more of how I was stuck in my feeling then express this to other people. To comprehend my feeling and world helped me to become a singer and a storyteller. Music was my channel and platform to communicate to others plus I figured I’m not too bad at singing.

How would you describe your artistic style/color to anyone who doesn’t know you?

A pet. who can deliver you joy and entertain you at times. 

Did you always want to be an artist, or did you have other dream careers growing up?

Working for Disney. I was always interested in making stories, acting, drawing and singing. Dream package!

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Chan-wook Park, the film director. Thanks for asking!

Personal experiences.

BIBI “The Fan”

How did you meet Yoonmirae and Tiger JK?

I met Yoonmirae and JK when making music on SoundCloud when I was 18.

You were the runner-up on the show The Fan. Firstly, how did you end up participating on the show?

I end up participating in the show because of JK and Yoonmirae. They suggested me to be on the show which I feel grateful!

How was your experience on the show?

It was quite stressful and the pressure!! The pressure was… I felt scared. But after all the time passes if I look back it was a good experience for me to be on the show.

BIBI Writes a Manual for Lovers

You released your EP this year, “THE MANUALS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LOVE.” Firstly, how was your experience recording your first EP? Any interesting stories you can tell us about the process?

There was an extra track that is supposedly released under the EP but it couldn’t be released due to my mistake. Sending my apologies to the producer… Hopefully, I will get this track to be released anytime soon!

What was the inspiration for the EP?

Oriented from my personal experiences. You know you go through those times that you’re the only person feeling miserable in the world but later on you realize everyone goes through a hard time like you. I thought to talk about this type of feeling makes people relate themselves to the story to all the tracks on my EP.

Each song seems to be a guide for people about certain subjects. Are these songs advice from personal experience?

Yes! How did you know?

You worked mostly with stevenc4stle on the music. What do you like about working with him?

He has a certain vibe that I dig! Hard to describe in text, haha plus we been working together with long-time teamwork!

New Experiences

I saw you at MU:CON this year. How was the experience for you?

It was my first time having a band set. I feel like I have accomplished a new mission. It felt like I could get a bit closer to the audience this time.

You collaborated with Crucial Star on his track “Hammock.” How did you two meet?

Crucial Star hit me up for collaborating a track :) I like the cool summer vibe so why not doing it?

How was the experience working on the song together?

Expectation vs. Reality

What have you learned about the music industry since you debuted in May?

I feel like… there are times that you need to / asked to put on a mask and pretend to be someone else. Or try to make myself to likable person for everyone. But I try to keep it real. Let’s just keep it real. No cap

Is there anything about being an artist that’s different than what you expected?

It was a lot better than I expected. I literally thought stepping in the music industry will be hell but some people treat you with warm heart and keep it real with me.

Can you tell us a bit about your single “Jagook (Step?)“?

“Jagook” the English title has changed to “Step” due to some incidents! The Korean word “Jagook” has a couple of similar meanings. It has the meaning of Stain, Mark, Imprints, etc. imagine you go to someone’s place who you really really like but you started to finding someone else’s imprint or marks that aha not faded away completely. which will leave you to tear marks on your face. But I wish you don’t give up and follow your heart. and replace those marks with your own steps. We always have to let someone go in our lives which hurts sooooo much. But I would like to encourage you, us, ourselves not to be afraid of letting someone go and start something new.

Is it about a personal experience?

I wish it never happened but yes!

BIBI’s Ambitions & Goals

What is your biggest ambition or goal as an artist?

To make music and stories for people can relate to. It can be a good one or a bad one. I want to leave my shoulder open for my listeners to lay their heads on. I should probably study English harder to reach out to more people haha

Can you tell us about your plans for 2020?

There is a film that will be out that I’m featured in. Even though 2020 won’t be my year but it’s mine!

BIBI is another artist on the rise. Her 2020 looks extremely promising. With the support of some of Korean music’s legends, there’s no doubt BIBI will be an artist to watch in the next year.
