On August 15, beasts and natives alike have revealed the tracklist of E SENS’ first full-length album ‘The Anecdote’ via Instagram.
It is made up of nine new tracks and the single ‘Back In Time’ that came out last September, all in all ten songs. Not all of the tracks that E SENS had released for free online are included in ‘The Anecdote’ and there is only one featuring artist, Kim Ximya.
The first title ‘주사위’ means ‘dice’ and the fifth, ‘삐끗’, may be translated to ‘wrong’ or ‘skew’.
The album’s presales started August 10 at noon and fans’ reactions were so explosive that the server of Hiphopplaya’s online store was temporarily down. And even now, five days after presales started, the album ranks first place on Interpark and YES24 as most selling album. It has already set a new record for Hiphopplaya’s monthly and annual sales rate.
‘The Anecdote’s official release date is August 27. Since August 10, presales have been ongoing online and offline on YES24, Interpark, KYOBO Hottracks, Aladdin, Synnara Record, and more. Presales for the album’s limited edition that includes a bonus end today.
Starting August 10th, pre-sale for E Sens’ highly anticipated album [The Anecdote] will be available through major online and offline record stores including Yes24, Interpark, Synnara Records and so on.
On August 8th, Beast And Natives (BANA) surprised everyone by revealing an unexpected poster photo of the [The Anecdote] official release date, ‘August 27th’ via Instagram (@theanecdote).
Along with this photo, BANA stated that the album pre-sale will proceed starting the 10th.
On the same day, a video was uploaded where DJ Soulscape is playing a sneak peek of an album track from [The Anecdote], striking heat to numerous online hip hop communities and SNS.
Last summer, E Sens made numerous headlines by announcing that his solo album [The Anecdote] will be dealing with meaningful and self-reflective anecdotes of his life.

“Back In Time” revealed to be one of the first album track from [The Anecdote] was released in September, heightening the fans’ anticipation for the release. But in November, E-Sens was arrested for investigation regarding his previous use of marijuana, leaving the fans with continuous debates and suppositions about the album.
The long-awaited story of [The Anecdote] highlights just how much the fans are willing to overlook his conviction for smoking marijuana.
Whether he will be able to generate new hits from behind bars will certainly be center of observation as in the history of Korean music, this will be the first album ever to be released by an artist detained in jail.

After much suppositions and speculations, [The Anecdote] announces its official release date, inviting hip hop fans to finally meet the highly anticipated album.
((The album cover is an extract of a car owner’s manual on what to do when there are problems with the car, like the headlights not working at night or the engine not starting.))
Verse 1)
Hey, have I changed a lot? [People say] words like
“Everyone changes in life,” words like “You cannot
trust anyone in this place so be careful.” What do I see in you to believe you?
Even friends who cared about loyalty go other ways
People say “Never be naive.” So many requirements at the same time,
I listen to a few of them. That guy’s words which I cannot trust
and the feelings of a longtime friend that I can never know,
maybe I am the dirtiest for spending time thinking about this((Possible reference to E SENS’ track ‘드러워’ [Dirty]))
Everyone is competing, comparing and nitpicking about who’s superior
The news claim it is not a beautiful thing
but we all saw that it does not change right away
We learn the art of passing by as if it was nothing
If you are just sad about it, [they say] you are a child. It is becoming a habit of mine
I cannot care for my nice friend’s life as well
We understand each other. The drunkard((Probably referring to himself))
who used to be so elated has changed indeed. Life goes on
Verse 2)
“If I had choice, back then was better.” It is no use
saying this sentence to anyone. Now, you actually say
that you miss your teens and the distressing military
You were the one who was in a hurry to get out of them
7 to 10.((This could mean that he’s now talking about the time from 2007 to 2010, some people suggest it could also refer to the self-study time at high school.)) When I was sitting at my desk
I just hoped for it to pass. As for you, I think
it was surely not just that one time. Don’t
drink yourself to death. If you take a look, [you can see that] everything comes and goes
One’s own deficits? Or unfairness?
That is something you can think about for a long time
[But] you’re not allowed to, always work, work
First of all, go over the yellow one, dust off your butt and get up((The ‘yellow one’ is probably the sun (credit to Hiphople user 거북이거북해).))
If you imagine the place you will reach
after half a day, you can even endure a distressing flight((Fyi: the word ‘비행’ (bihaeng, here translated as ‘flight’) can also mean ‘misdeed/wrongdoing/delinquency’.
Some people go as far as to connect it to bhang (if read as “bee-hang”), a drink made of the cannabis plant, which however seems far-fetched and makes no sense.))
I wish for the weather to be nice too
Not cold and not hot but just perfect
Outro)
I sit anywhere and smoke a cigarette
It’s unhealthy? Of course I know that too
It’s addicting but I pretend it’s not. Actually,
I just gain time to space out, give me five quiet minutes
Two thoughts come up at the same time
If I feel exhausted, [I put off] these worries to tomorrow again
Knockin’ on heaven’s door
Give me a bed on which I can just lie quietly for a while
Just now, E SENS’ new song ‘비행’ [Flight] has been released via beasts and natives alike’s website. In the song, E SENS is calmly contemplating the world around him that is changing rapidly.
Two days ago on July 22, E SENS has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison at his final hearing. beasts and natives alike have revealed that they will appeal against the sentence. They said: “It is a pity that the situation has turned out like this, but before long, everyone will be able to listen to E SENS’ full-length album ‘The Anecdote’ that so many have been waiting for.”
Yesterday on July 8, Beasts and Natives Alike (short: BANA) have released a brief documentary that gives hints about E SENS’ first album ‘The Anecdote’ and reveals a bit of his current situation.
