Rap Beat Show 2016 – Concert Review

| ,

Hiphop fans were excited to see Culture Think hold its first event on Christmas Eve in 2014 at the Walkerhill Theatre. Consequently, the large turnout came as no surprise for their next event held the following year. This year’s festivities were no different as the event planners once again delivered an impressive lineup showcased at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

The night was scheduled to be prefaced with a well-suited selection of tracks spun by Red Bull’s Thr3estyle 2015 National Championship’s 1st place winner, DJ Tezz. Upon taking the stage his skills definitely proved to be as clean and well deserving as the acts following his performance. He engaged those of us in the crowd and successfully set the mood featuring a wide, yet fitting array of songs from Keith Ape’s “It G Ma” to brief excerpts from EDM tracks and more distinct trap hits such as A$AP Ferg’s “New Level.”

Microdot (check our exclusive interview with him here) was next to take the stage, keeping the crowd hyped with his energy and interaction with fans that were steadily filing in to the event hall. After lighting it up with his set, Microdot headed backstage while L.A. rapper, Nafla made his way out to the front. The room was quickly filling up with people and it was clear that the concert planners had brought together a great set of performers.

However, as the night progressed and fans continued to pour in, it became apparent that the hall wouldn’t be able to accommodate everyone who had paid to attend. This posed a problem to staff outside and created a tense and stressful situation as venue personnel were forced to explain to a considerable amount of dissatisfied guests that their pre-paid tickets would not give them entry for the evening. Regardless, the program continued on inside with captivating appearances from a variety of artists and groups such as Angdreville, Vismajor, and Zico, to name a few. See the full list of performers on the event poster below.
