YunB of Hi-Lite Records has released a new gangster trap single and music video.
Last year, YunB debuted with the single ‘Runaway, Pt. 1‘ followed by ‘Runaway, Pt. 2‘. This year in March he was the only featured artist on the album ‘더 아름다운 것 (More Beautiful Thing)‘ by talented singer-songwriter Joon-il Jung (정준일), and he received attention from the worldwide jazz hop community by releasing the Nujabes-dedicated track ‘Yayo (Feat. MaseWonder)’ for free.
YunB is still a young artist and on the search for the roots of his music, one has to go back in time farther than expected. His style that combines jazz chords with recently popular trap sounds was influenced by 60s/70s black music and also has similarities to 90s hiphop.
In the single ‘Robabank‘, YunB reinterprets southern gangster trap. At first glance it seems to be a grim track about the hard life of tough gangsters, but looking more closely you will find indications of satire here and there. The bright colors on the cover artwork, the soft and calm progress of the melody and chords, and the lax music video that seems like a fake documentary. These three elements turn the whole track around.
‘Robabank’ also features newcoming rapper Lil Cherry who helps raise the catchy charm of this track with which YunB brings back the humor to Korean hiphop.
