Anderson .Paak is bringing the musical world of K-POPS! into full view.
The nine-time Grammy-winning artist has announced K-POPS! (Music From and Inspired by K-POPS! Motion Picture), a 17-track soundtrack tied to his feature film directorial debut. The album arrives May 29, one day before K-POPS! begins streaming on Netflix on May 30.
The soundtrack places .Paak at the center of a wide cross-section of Korean and global music. The lineup includes G-DRAGON, DEAN, aespa, NMIXX, Crush, CHUNG HA, SOYEON of i-dle, HONGJOONG of ATEEZ, Jay Park, JOSHUA of SEVENTEEN, Kevin Woo, LNGSHOT, JO1, JID, ALISSIA, Corbyn Besson and .Paak’s son Soul Rasheed, who makes his musical debut on the project.
Anderson .Paak’s K-POPS! soundtrack arrives May 29
For HiphopKR readers, the draw is not only the scale of the guest list, but how deliberately the soundtrack sits between K-pop, Korean R&B, hip-hop, funk and contemporary soul. .Paak appears throughout the album, while producer Dem Jointz serves as executive producer, with additional production from .Paak and others.
The first previews have already mapped out the project’s range. “Keychain,” released with aespa in February, leaned into glossy pop production without losing .Paak’s loose rhythmic signature. “Aftertaste,” featuring DEAN, followed in May and brought one of Korea’s most distinct alt-R&B voices into the soundtrack’s orbit. Both tracks were produced by Dem Jointz.
The album also includes “Too Bad (KPOPS! Version)” by G-DRAGON and Anderson .Paak, extending their previous collaboration into the film’s soundtrack universe. The original “Too Bad” was released in 2025 as part of G-DRAGON’s long-awaited return and became one of the more visible Korea-U.S. collaborations of that cycle.
K-POPS! connects music, family, and cultural exchange
Set around a fictional Seoul-based K-pop competition show, K-POPS! follows a musician whose professional second chance collides with a personal discovery involving his son. .Paak wrote and directed the film, and stars alongside his real-life son Soul Rasheed. Rotten Tomatoes lists the film as a limited theatrical release from February 27, 2026, with .Paak credited as both director and actor.
The project also carries a personal dimension. In a Los Angeles Times feature earlier this year, .Paak discussed how the film allowed him to explore his Black and Korean background through music, fatherhood and the influence of Black American music on K-pop’s evolution. The film includes original songs co-written and co-produced by .Paak and Dem Jointz, with the music positioned as part of the story rather than an accessory to it.
That context gives the soundtrack more weight than a standard companion album. With artists spanning Korean hip-hop, idol music, R&B, J-pop and American rap, K-POPS! frames collaboration as the core of the project rather than a marketing flourish.
