PoPoMo Releases First Full-Length Album [PoPoMo]

|

PoPoMo, a duo consisting of JINBO and Hersh, has released their first full-length album [PoPoMo]. The album consists of eight tracks and is said to contain soul music for the Korean people and the world at this time. In the album’s introduction, PoPoMo says that it’s time to distinguish between R&B and soul, and that’s what they want to say to many people through this album.

Unlike the ‘Hip Hop Awards’ and the ‘Hip Hop Category’ of music awards shows, Korean R&B and soul have been lumped together as one genre and categorized as the ‘R&B & Soul Category’. However, in recent years, as Korean R&B has been spreading overseas under the name KRNB, I think it’s time to separate R&B and soul in Korea.

“What is the difference between R&B and Soul?”
Unlike R&B, which is mainly about romantic feelings, the soul genre expresses “life” itself, so it is much broader than R&B and even has some similarities with hip-hop and traditional songs. As a soul genre, this album contains stories of people’s lives and smells of people. However, it is unique in that it is the “life and taste of the world” through the eyes and mouths of Koreans.

Hersh, an up-and-coming artist in the Korean soul music scene, and JINBO, who has stakes in the Korean hip-hop, R&B, K-pop, and soul genres, met to create this album under the name PoPoMo. Reflecting the globalization of Korean music, where the world listens to Korean music and Korea listens to the world’s music, PoPoMo’s music is infused with soul from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Southeast Asia. It is natural to see us enjoying the culture of different countries in Itaewon, Hongdae, Euljiro, Seongsu, etc.

‘BYOB’ is about a group of friends getting together to de-stress at the end of a long day, and ‘All That You Wanted’ asks, “Is this what a good man looks like? “; “All That You Wanted,” a 6/8 ballad with a novel approach that uses art tools in the title and lines from romantic movies in the lyrics; “Canvas, Brush & Knife,” a 6/8 ballad with a novel approach; and “Behold Me In The Glare,” a song that sounds like a visualization of Quentin Tarantino’s “From Dusk Till Dawn.” Listeners will be able to immerse themselves in soul music for Koreans and people around the world in this era.
