This year’s highly anticipated R16 World B-boy Masters Championships is taking place on September 12th – 13th at Jangchung Gymnasium (장충체육관) in Seoul, Korea.
Considered one of the most revered and internationally celebrated B-boy tournaments in the world, nearly 300 participants will gather in Seoul for two days of intense competition and camaraderie. B-boys, Poppers and Lockers will all have an opportunity to showcase their skills and battle in front of a live audience of over 3000 people in order to determine the best individual dancers and crews in the world. Live performances will also be featured from Korean hiphop artists Dok2 and The Quiett as well as the Warsaw Band from Poland.
The fact that these dancers made it to Seoul this weekend is a commendable feat in it of itself. Starting in February of 2015, thirty three separate tournaments were held in over twenty countries as far and wide as the USA to Nepal to Kazakhstan and El Salvador. Solo competitors and crews were not extended an invitation to come battle in Korea, they earned it.
Competing crews this year will be represent Korea, China, Australia, USA, Netherlands, Taiwan, Kazakhstan and Russia. With a revised team format this year, each 7 member crew will be assembled of the best dancers from the region to represent each country as a “national” team similar to the Olympics. All dancers will be competing to be crowned the champions of the world as well as taking a claim in over $35,000 in prize money.
